Back in the 1940's, my father sits in the backyard garden at my grandparents house.  My dad passed away a few weeks ago, and upon reflection, I am heartwarmed at the similarities that I  carry with me and consequently pass on to my children.
As a very young girl, some of my strongest memories at my Nono and Noni's house is walking through the flower gardens and smelling the hundreds of yellow and orange marigolds.  I know many people don't like the smell of marigolds, but it absolutely has the opposite effect on me.  Wherever we have lived, I have never missed the opportunity to plant marigolds!

Take a Soak!

What is this?  Phyllis, our Polish hen, got a boo boo on her foot.  We have been soaking her foot everyday and she enjoys it so much, that she actually lays down in the bowl of warm, soapy water.  Phyllis is happy just to sit there, on our kitchen counter and soak!  You can see her foot, leg and tummy filling the cereal bowl!  As you can see, she is very content to sit and watch me do dishes while she takes a soak!

It is very important to take cuts to their feet seriously as it can develop quickly into "Bumble Foot," which can be deadly.  I am also treating her with a dose of Tetracycline once a day.

Happy Fourth of July to Everyone! (or the two people who may actually read this!)  We spent the fourth celebrating our independence in the truest sense of the word.  Working on our farm to stay independent!  There's nothing better than when David and I work together.  We take regular sweet tea breaks in the shade, and sit back and admire all our work!  Of course, we also manage to come up with more projects to add to our "to do" list.  It's all worth it!  There is no other place we would rather be.
